The alcohol drug helpline is an information, referral and intervention service. Our trained Helpliners can talk with you and we can refer you to the treatment service that can best support you in your area. It’s your call 10 am to 10 pm dailyHelpline HistoryThis service started as a Canterbury pilot in 1995 and became a national service in February 1997 operating from 7pm-11pm. In November 1997 the hours were extended to 2pm to 10pm resulting in an increase in calls. In August 1999 there were yet more developments. One being the extension of hours from 10am to 10pm and secondly, the introduction of ‘Brief Intervention Counselling’ on the phones Monday to Friday 10am – 6pm. In mid 2003 the ‘Brief Intervention Counselling’ on the phones became available from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week. On December 5, 2002 the official inclusion of other drugs was launched by Hon. Annette King MP. For callers the service is now identified as the Alcohol Drug Helpline. This service is funded by the Alcohol Advisory Council and the Ministry of Health. |
